Load the film

Your camera arrives loaded, but here's how for your spare rolls: open the base plate, drop the cartridge in, draw the leader across, and close. The video shows the full motion.

Set the exposure

Turn the shutter dial and aperture ring until the two arrows in the viewfinder meet. That's your correct exposure — no menus, no guessing.

Focus the rangefinder

Look through the viewfinder and turn the lens ring. The faint second image in the center snaps together when your subject is sharp.

Advance & shoot

Wind the lever to cock the shutter, frame your shot, and press. One smooth press — that's a photograph made.

A few tips. Getting the most from Portra 400.

Shoot toward soft light

Portra loves window light, open shade, and golden hour. Harsh midday sun is its only weakness.

Make every frame count

Thirty-six frames per roll. Pause, compose, then press — the limit is the point.

Mind the lens cap

A rangefinder won't warn you if the cap is on. A quick glance before each shot saves a frame.

Returning the camera. Three steps, prepaid and simple.

Rewind the film

When the roll is finished, press the release button on the base and turn the rewind crank until tension releases. Your shots are safe inside the cartridge.

Pack it back up

Ship with the prepaid label

Seal the box, attach the included prepaid label, and drop it at any carrier point or ask your hotel concierge to send it.

Questions. The things people ask most.

What if I run out of film?
If you added spare rolls, just load the next one. Out of spares? Message us and we can arrange more, or you'll find Portra 400 at most camera shops in major cities.
I think I damaged the camera.
Don't worry — if you added damage protection, your liability is capped. Either way, message us before returning and we'll guide you through it.
When will I get my photos?
Once we receive the camera, we hand-develop and scan every frame. High-resolution scans reach your inbox within about a week.
Can I return it late?
Reach out as soon as you know. We can usually extend the rental for the extra days at the standard daily rate.

Ready when you are.
